Montipora Capricornis, more commonly referred to as Monti Cap, is a type of montipora that "plates" out into leaf shapes and sometimes forms cups and can even spiral upwards towards more light. As it grows outward from its base, it also thickens its base in order to give the coral more support and durability.
Montipora is the second largest species of SPS corals in the world and is largely responsible for building the immense calcium carbonate substructure that supports our oceans coral reefs. They require clean water, lots of light, a very stable/mature environment, lots of water flow, and require regular additions of calcium, magnesium, and alkalinity supplements to thrive.
Monti Cap is fairly easy to keep, grows quite fast, and should be placed in the upper half of the aquarium. Be cautious when placing it though, because as they grow larger, they will cast large shadows and block light from any corals underneath of them.
Although Montipora is mainly photosynthetic, relying on the products of their zooxanthellae, they should also be fed phytoplankton and zooplankton, as well as other products like Coral Feast and Reef Energy or other amino acids and probiotics.
